A magnet school in the Hartford Public Schools system, dedicated to the Montessori method of education.
The Montessori program at Annie Fisher functions under the guidelines and standards of the Association Montessori Internationale (Amsterdam). In 2012 and 2016, Annie Fisher Montessori was awarded "recognition" by AMI/USA, an acknowledgment of the highest quality program implementation at both primary and elementary levels.
Conveniently located in the northwest part of Hartford, adjacent to the University of Hartford campus, just off of Albany Avenue where West Hartford, Bloomfield and Hartford meet.
The Annie Fisher School building was fully renovated in 2009 and houses both the Annie Fisher Montessori and S.T.E.M. Magnet Schools. Facilities shared by the two schools include a 500-seat auditorium, library/media center, cafeteria and gymnasium. Six-and-a-half acres of campus include two playgrounds, fields for sports and for cultivation and a riverside classroom. Teaching spaces within Annie Fisher Montessori include six primary, four lower-elementary, two upper elementary classrooms, and our Erdkinder program (grades 7 & 8), all fully equipped with Montessori materials. Additionally, there is a Daily Living Skills room with cooking and laundry facilities; a parent room for community gatherings; and resource rooms for support staff.

YMCA before-school care and after-school care is available for students K-8th.
Short- or long-sleeved navy blue polo with khaki bottom (e.g. pants, shorts, skort/skirt or jumper); navy blue cardigan or sweater may be worn over the polo. Approved AFM spirit wear is available. Busing available for students K-8th grade and 5-years of age or older.
A truly diverse community where 50% of students come from Hartford and 50% of students come from 42 surrounding towns resulting in a beautifully diverse enrollment across many races, ethnicities and economic spectrums.
AFM has twelve faculty members. All hold CT educator certification and Association Montessori Internationale diplomas.
All lower, upper elementary, and Erdkinder students have access to computers. All classrooms are equipped with Smartboards. Technology is used to enrich our children's ability to explore and discover.
Physical education is offered to full-day students.
Art and Music are offered to all full-day students. Classroom teachers are trained in the Montessori music curriculum. Additionally, Annie Fisher Montessori partners with Hartford Performs through a Hartford Public Schools arts grant. Through Hartford Performs, practicing artists lead students through a range of art experiences, including puppetry, storytelling, dance, drama and musical instrument work.
